Buonasera,
ho WordPress 4.3.1 con il tema Twenty Fourteen Child
Vorrei modificare le dimensioni del header che di default so 1260 X 240 pixels e portarle più o meno a 1260 X 100px.
Dovrei quindi cambiare il codice (credo) nel tema child in function.php ma non so come fare esattamente.

Grazie mille Titti, ieri pomeriggio avevo guardato già il post che gentilmente mi segnali ma provando poi a modificare mi ero “impicciato”.
Magari ho inserito nell’editor del tema child (function.php) qualche carattere indigesto.
Ora riprovo.

Non sarà come l’ultima volta che non vedevi nessuna modifica perchè non svuotavi la cache?
Poi le modifiche non si fanno MAI dall’editor.

Usa questo allora (via FTP) in fondo al functions.php del tema child:
define( 'HEADER_IMAGE_HEIGHT', apply_filters( 'header_image_height', 100 ) );
Non vedi nulla forse perché tu ti aspetti che cambi la dimensione dell’immagine esistente. Non è cosà¬, questo serve per cambiare le misure di default nella personalizzazione dell’immagine della testata, come hai chiesto. In alternativa, se vorrai cambiare anche la larghezza:
add_theme_support( 'custom-header', array(
'width' => 1000,
'height' => 100,
) );Se non vedrai il cambiamento in Aspetto > Testata, non è un problema del codice.

Avevo controllato la cache
Ora sono riuscito a inserire il codice e l’immagine che inserito risponde alle esigenze.
C’era un problema nell’immagine che avevo creato.
