ciao a tutti, ho provato a convertire in italiano il blog come avevo già fatto in passato su un altro blog cioè seguendo le vostre indicazioni alla lettera ma il blog è sempre in inglese (la parte di amministrazione, non intendo il tema).
Cosa posso fare?
se aggiorno alla 2.2.1 si sistema? Non l’ho ancora fatto perchè non ho tempo di aggiustare eventuali (quasi certi.. come al solito) errori del tema.

a parte settare il config, deve eistere la cartella languages coi file di localizzazione in wp-include
scarica una versione di wp da questo sito e vedi, mi pare che in quella di wordpress.org non ci sia è solo in inglese

Il mio amico Lapo ha trovato il problema, vi incollo la sua spiegazione:
il problema non è nella traduzione (che Ophy aveva installato correttamente) ma è un vero e proprio bug di WordPress non ancora corretto, che si presenta però solamente su architetture a 64 bit; questa patch risolve il problema:
