Buona sera,
mi stavo informando su come tradurre il mio sito in altre lingue. Il plugin più famoso è WPML, ma è diventato commerciale. Non dovrebbe essere accessibile a tutti essendo con licenza GPL?

gpl non significa gratis, significa open source.

Lo so che GPL significa open source, ma non ho capito com’è possibile accedere al codice sorgente.
Prendi ad esempio RedHat, è una distribuzione a pagamento, ma tutti possono accedere ai sorgenti, infatti c’è una distribuzione (CentOS) che è pienamente compatibile.
Mi sembra strano che per un progetto cosi famoso come WPML non sia nato un ramo di sviluppo parallelo manteuto dalla comunità ..
Se c’è una licenza GPL ed io voglio farne una mia versione ne ho tutto il diritto no?

Comunque per restare in tema, che alternative mi consigliate?
Ho provato QTRANSLATE. Non mi piace il fatto che modifica i post originali, quindi una volta disinstallato mi sono ritrovato tutti i post modificati.
Ho provato anche ZdMultiLang. Mi piace la gestione, infatti i post in altre lingue sono nel DB e non viene modificato il post originale, però non è pienamente compatibile con il mio tema (Graphene)
Cosa consigliate?

puoi accedere al codice sorgente pagando il fee che wpml richiede.

Wolly in realtà posso accedere al sorgente anche senza pagare ed in maniera del tutto legale.
O magari lo acquisto e lo distribuisco gratuitamente a chi lo vuole.

Quali valide alternative ci sono per rendere un sito wordpress multilingue?

i plugin chew vanno bene sono 2
1) WPML
2)qtranslate
se non ti piacciono puoi utilizzare WP in modalità network, 1 blog una lingua, oppure puoi fare installazioni separate 1 WP una lingua.
In alternativa puoi costruirti un ambiente che utilizza i campi personalizzati per individuare le lingue con i loop modificati oppure puoi creare dei custom post type uno per ogni lingua e creare i loop ad hoc per le lingue, poi puoi crearti un plugin di correlazione con le varie lingue.

Effettivamente la soluzione più comoda e veloce è utilizzare uno dei 2 plugin da te elencati.
Inizio a testare qtranslate con il mio tema. L’unico possibile problema è la difficile disinstallazione, ma se funzione perchè dovrei disinstallarlo?!
