Salve, sto imparando ad usare wordpress e vorrei sottoporvi questa domanda.
Ho istallato il tema “Appointment” su una istallazione di WP.
In automatico mi è apparso anche un secondo tema chiamato “Appointment-Blue”.
Se clicco sulla voce “Dettagli” mi viene specificato: “Questo è un tema child di Appointment”.
Ho quindi scelto di attivare questo tema avendo inteso che si trattasse di un tema child.
Ho effettuate molte personalizzazioni ai file functions.php, style.css, template… etc.
Ad un certo punto tra gli aggiornamenti da effettuare mi è apparso anche quello relativo al tema “Appointment-Blue”.
Compiuta questa ultima operazione, tutte le personalizzazioni che avevo effettuate sono andate perse.
A questo punto vi chiedo:
E’ possibile creare un tema CHILD partendo da un tema CHILD?
Quindi creare un tema CHILD di “Appointment-Blue” (che in effetti è un tema figlio di “Appointment”).

Intanto, dubito che il tema child si sia installato da solo. Sarà stato proposto in bacheca dopo l’installazione del tema parent e tu avrai scelto di installarlo, prima che di attivarlo.
Comunque, non esiste il concetto “tema figlio del figlio”, sarebbe assurdo: che si fa, una catena di temi a cascata?
C’è un tema figlio, e c’è un tema genitore. Punto.
Tutte le modifiche vanno nel tema figlio e questo non va mai aggiornato (o perlomeno non come hai fatto te, in automatico) altrimenti è chiaro che perdi le modifiche – perché i nuovi file sovrascrivono i vecchi – e decade il discorso dell’utilità del tema figlio.
Il fatto è che se usi un tema figlio pronto di quel tipo quasi sicuramente arriva con qualche file in più rispetto al tema figlio che faresti da solo, e quasi sicuramente il suo autore prima o poi lo aggiorna, per motivi più di immagine che per necessità , cioè per tenerlo in giro meno datato e quindi più appetibile per i nuovi utenti.
Ma tu, che già ce l’hai e l’hai modificato, non devi aggiornarlo.
Se vuoi togliere il messaggio di aggiornamento in bacheca basterà adattare il numero di versione nel foglio stile con quello nuovo. Poi, volendo, chiedi all’autore, o guardi il changelog se c’è, quali modifiche sono state effettuate, oppure controlli tu le differenze tra i due con software come WinMerge, sempre se ci capisci un po’, per vedere se sono funzionali o solo estetiche o entrambe e di conseguenza decidere di ignorarle o integrarle – integrarle, non sostituirle – nei tuoi file.
àˆ il prezzo che si paga usando un tema child pronto, perché non è quasi mai vuoto e in pratica è come usare un vero e proprio tema, non nel senso che è autonomo, ma nel senso che è soggetto a cambiamenti, ma se a te questi cambiamenti non importano e non comportano deficit, ti tieni il tema cosà¬.
Altrimenti ti fai tu il tuo tema figlio di Appointment leggendo queste istruzioni, e in questo modo non riceverai mai messaggi di aggiornamento.
Naturalmente in entrambi i casi dovrai rifare le tue modifiche: ciò non sarebbe successo se tu avessi avuto copia di backup. Quindi non solo sicuramente del tema immediatamente prima di aggiornarlo, scaricandolo via FTP, ma SEMPRE averlo il più possibile aggiornato di tutti i contenuti nei file sul server.
