Volevo creare un blog bilingue ma quello che ho preferito fare alla fine è stata la doppia installazione. Ho creato due blog indipendenti esteticamente simili, collegati tramite un semplice link, uno in italiano e l’altro in inglese:
http://www.intransito.biz/blog
http://www.intransito.biz/blog_en
Premetto che non so nulla di localizzazione.
Vorrei sapere se c’è un modo che possa dirigere il visitatore sull’uno o sull’altro blog a seconda della sua lingua.
Se io italiano finisco su /blog_en dovrei essere reindirizzato su /blog (in italiano);
se io americano finisco su /blog dovrei arrivare su /blog_en;
se sono italiano ed arrivo su /blog, ci resto …idem se sono inglese ed arrivo su /blog_en
Scusate gli esempi..che forse complicano il discorso.
C’è un modo?

Sà¬, lo uso per le pagine dei miei plugin.
Se chi vi accede ha come lingua principale del browser l’italiano, visualizzerà il testo in italiano, altrimenti in inglese.
A giudicare da quello che scrivi direi che è proprio ciò che cerchi

Non ho capito bene come funzioni Polyglot. Io ho due diverse installazioni, nel senso che è come se fossero due blog indipendenti che potrebbe non avere nulla a che fare con l’altro senonchè il link che li unisce. Io stesso traduco e riscrivo i post in inglese. Come fa Polyglot a ridirigere qualcuno col browser “inglese” che accede ad /intransito.biz/blog (chè è in italiano) a /intransito.biz/blog_en (che è in inglese) e viceversa.
Dovrei installare il plugin in entrambi i blog?!
Questo è il problema.

No, dovresti avere un’unica installazione per entrambe le lingue, cosa più corretta anche “tecnicamente” (se non altro perché la tua soluzione non prevede nessuna associazione logica tra un articolo in italiano ed il suo corrispettivo in inglese). Diciamo che hai usato un metodo non proprio ortodosso (anche se funzionale).
Comunque il sito del plugin è piuttosto ben documentato, e non dovresti avere problemi con la lingua

Dimenticavo, se preferisci lasciare le cose cosଠcerca in rete uno script PHP (ne esisteranno di sicuro) che effettui un redirect a seconda dell’IP di provenienza.

Ho anch’io un blog bilingue con la doppia installazione, e ho inserito nella cartella principale del sito un file index.php contenente:

define('WP_USE_THEMES', true);
if (substr($_SERVER["HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE"],0,2) == "it") {
require('./blog/wp-blog-header.php');
} else {
require('./blog_en/wp-blog-header.php');
}
?>
In questo modo se il browser è impostato su lingua italiana, il visitatore si ritrova nel sito italiano, altrimenti si ritrova nel sito inglese.

Ma in questo modo bisogna fare doppi aggiornamenti, doppie modifiche, doppi post, tutto al quadrato. Tecnicamente non credo sia la soluzione migliore, anzi forse la peggiore di tutte anche essendo un passo avanti al non aver niente.

Ciao amici, mi associo a questa discussione in quanto anch’io devo installare wordpress e desidero averlo in 2 lingue italiano e inglese.
Quindi mi sembra di capire che una volta installato, basta installare anche il plugin di cui sopra e automaticamente mi trovo 2 versioni del sito (italiana e inglese) ho capito bene o ho semplificato eccessivamente la cosa?

Ci sono molti plugin per gestire, in vari modi, un blog bilingue. Forse il più semplice è il plugin di Traffyk, Custom Fields Translate.
Ci sono poi altri plugin, più complessi e più ricchi di funzioni, come Polyglot, Gengo, ZdMultiLang, qTranslate, xLanguage. Per scegliere penso che sia indispensabile provarli e trovare la risposta più adatta alle proprie esigenze.
PS: nessuno dei plugin citati fa la traduzione automatica, le traduzioni nelle diverse lingue vanno inserite manualmente.

Comunque il sito del plugin è piuttosto ben documentato, e non dovresti avere problemi con la lingua
